“Roots” producer David Wolper died Tuesday at age 82. Wolper was in charge of the spectacular 1984 L.A. Summer Olympics opening ceremony, where he had 84 pianists on grand pianos appear on rising, retractable platforms to play Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (6:30 on video).
