From the category archives:
Princesses Beatrice (left) and Eugenie (right) and their cash-strapped mom, Sarah, Duchess of York, attended a fundraiser on the trading floor of London trading firm BCG, which lost 658 employees in the World Trade Center attacks.
Sarah lost 50 lbs. on Weight Watchers. She was not invited to Prince William’s wedding after disgracing the crown with her “cash for access” scandal, in which she was caught on video accepting $40,000 cash toward a half-million-dollar payment for access to her former husband, Prince Andrew, Duke of York. He was a special rep for British trade until July 2011 — his departure attributed, in part, to the access scandal.
The hideous Philip Treacy hat worn by Beatrice to the royal wedding was auctioned for charity, raising over $123,000 for Unicef and Children in Crisis.
Eugenie is an Art History major who is just beginning to perform official duties as a Princess. She likes hot dogs and donuts and calls Betty Deuce “Granny.”

in charity, girls will be girls, royalsThat nattering blob of chicken schmaltz, flanken gravy and hair goo will not be seen this Labor Day on the annual shlockfest of the MDA Telethon.
Yes, Jerry Lewis, 85, has been relieved of duties.
It’s unknown who will fill Jerry’s clown shoes, but they’ve been grooming the ubiquitous Tom Bergeron for the job. Then again, Ed McMahon could return from the beyond to do it. Hi yooooooooo!

in charity, old peopleHere’s a wonderful photo of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, that really shows off her best feature; that wonderful mane of flaxen sofa cushion.
Camilla, the old bagpipers (known as the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Pipe Band), and the future king attended a charity day at Perth Racecourse on Saturday. Cam and Chuck are known in Scotland as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (no relation).
More than 10,000 people turned out to see the old nags run the races, raising more than a quarter million dollars for various charities, including the Princes Trust.
They later visited the stables, where cameras were not permitted. I can’t imagine why… maybe I can.

Be as charitable as you can.

in Real Gone Places, charityFormer President Nancy Reagan (yeah, I know what I said), 89, joined the ladies who lunch in Beverly Hills at the 22nd Annual Spring Luncheon given by The Colleagues (which helps fight child abuse) at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel today. Her date was Oscar de la Renta.
Nancy walked under her own power on the arm of Oscar, with a cane in her other hand, wearing the peachy base, hot coral lipstick and medium auburn hair of another era.
I am not endeared to her by virtue of her age. Her beady-eyed phoniness still makes my skin crawl, only less so now, because I know she’s closer to death.

in charity, lookalikes, oh yes he didOne of the best young people I know, John-Clark Levin, and his friend Joe Luchsinger are about to shake hands in Times Square. For a long time. They’ll be competing against teams from around the world on January 14.
Levin has broken the longest handshake Guinness record twice; in May 2009 and October 2009. The two will shake to benefit Teach for America (USA), an innovative program which brings outstanding recent college graduates to teach in some of the nation’s most disadvantaged schools. Event details here. (And please share this on your Facebook page using the handy button at the bottom.)
John-Clark has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Claremont Independent and won the prestigious 2010 Eric Breindel Award for collegiate journalism, which included a writing internship at the Wall Street Journal, writing for their Op-Ed pages.
A native of Ojai, California, Levin is majoring in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics and Linguistics at Claremont McKenna College. He has talked of a career as a spiritual leader.
Luchsinger is a Physics, Neuroscience and Psychology major at Baldwin-Wallace University. He performs neuroscience research as a Senior Associate at the Baldwin-Wallace neuroscience lab. He has performed lung research at the Columbus Children’s Hospital for the past two years and recently participated in an archaeological dig in southern Ohio. A native of Bexley, Ohio, Luchsinger is an avid athlete, focusing on strength training and extreme sports, such as mountain climbing, skydiving and scuba diving.
Make a pledge today, won’t you? Thanks! Shake!
The competition serves to raise funds and awareness for causes such as the Teach for America, the Auckland Down Syndrome Association and the Women’s Foundation of Nepal. The last team still shaking wins a majority of the proceeds of the event for the charity it’s competing for. That’s where you come in. Donate, cheer them on and spread the word. By pledging only $1 per hour that the shake goes on, you can help to bring books to girls in the Himalayas and hope to America’s inner city youth. Let your friends know that you are supporting this. They can watch the event live at shakinghistory.com from anywhere in the world.
