You just never know who’s going to be the Friday Face, and neither do I. Today, it’s Jean Nidetch, nee Slutsky, formerly fat founder of Weight Watchers in 1963, after she’d lost 72 pounds on a similar program. By 1968 it was a worldwide phenomenon and the IPO sold out.
In the late ’70s, it was sold to Heinz for a reported $78 million. Nidetch, born in Brooklyn in 1923, now lives in Florida, following her retirement as a spokesperson in 1984. Weight Watchers continues to help people lose weight around the world, and I do mean AROUND the world.
Jean, daughter of a cab driver and a manicurist, was interviewed a few years ago… listen to her tell the story of how it all happened.
Jean Nidetch, entrepreneur, weight loss magnate and bouffant superstar, is today’s Friday Face.
Miss Burbank of 1948, Debbie Reynolds popped up last night at the Prevention Magazine TV Awards something or other last night at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.
Recent auctions of Debbie’s Hollywood memorabilia collection fetched millions of dollars for the star; Marilyn Monroe’s “Subway Dress” alone went for $4.6 million.
Debbie lives next door to her recently trimmed daughter, Carrie Fisher, seen below at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 10th.
Don’t they look great?
Debbie’s voice is currently heard on the Tropicana Orange Juice commercials.
A demure and delicious Gabourey Sidibe, as seen at a “Scream 4″ screening in NYC last night.
Gabby’s Eisenhower-cut leather jacket seems unable to marshal her allied forces.
I like this look for Gabby… it has that casual “let’s grab a bite” look… and coupled with a stunning coppery blush and a blue eye shadow that would make Miss Veronyka swoon, she’s frightfully lovely!
It’s Groundhog Day, and it’s the 63rd birthday of Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa. I make no conclusions about that coinkydink.
This woman annoys me in the most compelling way — I just want to watch her so I can mentally ridicule her smarmy display of culinary skill. And then she invites her swishy friends over and I love her again. And then she’s kissing on that creepy husband of hers and making me very uncomfortable. And then she invites one of her swishy friends over and I love her again.
Her theme song is hypnotic — in the same way that nitrous oxide is; they give it to me, I sit there and watch them — it plays, I watch her, and feel like I can’t move.
And now, some videos from Cerulean Emerald. Some really good videos.
