No, this isn’t one of the new queens on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. This isn’t even a man.
There’s happy news out of Spain, as you can see in the sanguine expression on the face of the Duchess of Alba. At least I think you can see it. Clearly she doesn’t have a care in the world, as evidenced by the fuchsia earrings and jaunty blue bow in her hair. Yes, this is ossified glee.
The Duchess of Alba and Alfonso Diez had no honeymoon after the October nuptials that solidified their July/February romance. There’d been a problem with Cayetana’s pelvis, requiring rest, and then there are the pesky austerity measures thrust upon the august duchess, which make traveling with an entourage a bit of conspicuousness best left behind palace doors, and heaven knows we don’t want to know what’s going on there.
Somehow, though, the newlyweds managed a getaway to the Loire Valley.
Carole Cook, 84, appeared last night at the Paley Center’s screening of the Carol Channing film, “Larger Than Life.” Miss Cook is the star of such kitsch classics as “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” and “Palm Springs Weekend.” She is neither surprised nor startled. She is merely fabulous. Hair by Technicolor. Makeup by Dupont.
“West Side Story” remnant George Chakiris, 77, attempted some type of facial expression. Greek chic! This is a very convincing weave. I’m not sure if he’s about to smile or weep.
Michael Learned, 72, the mom on “The Waltons,” looked relaxed and alert, perhaps shocked, I’m not sure. Goodnight, John Boy.
Conservative Republican Connie Stevens, 73, with a spectacular lipliner fail, with some type of hair that looks like it’s been infiltrated by makeup left on a pillow. Those are not maggots, that’s part of her dress.
The effervescent Ruta Lee, star of 1954′s “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” is giving Lithuanian glamour, and a makeup applied with more force than a “Drag Race” contestant. Don’t you just want to kiss her? She always looks like she’s chewing gum. Labas rytas!
You just never know who’s going to be the Friday Face, and neither do I. Today, it’s Jean Nidetch, nee Slutsky, formerly fat founder of Weight Watchers in 1963, after she’d lost 72 pounds on a similar program. By 1968 it was a worldwide phenomenon and the IPO sold out.
In the late ’70s, it was sold to Heinz for a reported $78 million. Nidetch, born in Brooklyn in 1923, now lives in Florida, following her retirement as a spokesperson in 1984. Weight Watchers continues to help people lose weight around the world, and I do mean AROUND the world.

Mary has been a champion of diabetes, and has worked closely with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. As many of you know, my imaginary daughter Amy has juvenile diabetes.

Here’s a Thursday morning greeting from the Duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart as seen Wednesday evening at some awards thing in Madrid.
Wearing what appears to be a custom-made Juicy Couture blouse infused with sparkles, the Duchess is giving “take my picture, bitch” in conservative but pointed doses, creating an elegance that is both exquisite and mildly terrifying.

Kirk Douglas is 95 today, and that makes him today’s Friday Face.
And as my grandmother would say, “Did you know Kirk Douglas was Jewish?!”
Douglas was born Issur Danielovitch in Amsterdam New York, December 9th, 1916. His first film, “The Strange Love of Martha Ivers,” is one of my favorites. It was profiled in a previous Friday Face.
But Douglas is best remembered for Stanley Kubrick’s “Spartacus,” which Douglas also produced, using writers who had been previously blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

That exquisite snowball of lamb hair, the lambs wool jacket, Duchess of Alba Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart and her Duke, Alfie, attended a recital in Seville last night… and it looks like marriage agrees with her… although it also looks like her dinner did not.
Cayetana wore a mini and fishnets, accentuating her arthritic limbs, while Alfie opted for something out of the Spanish version of a Lands’ End catalog. Adorable newlyweds!
